A Case of Hashimoto´s Thyroiditis Diagnosed by Needle Aspiration and Cytology

Abstract
|
|
|
Lymphocytic thyroiditis is one of acutoimmune disease which shows not only hereditary tendency but the presence of autoantibodies in the serum. It was descriebed originally by Hashimoto in 1912 and its incidence appears to be increasing.
Goiter is the most characteristic feature and followed by hypothyroidism subsequently. The incidence is peak at school aged girls, but there are few reports in Korean children.
We report a case of Hashimoto thyroiditis in a 10 year old girl. The diagnosis was established by fine needle aspiraxion and cytology.
A brief review of related literatures was made.
